The British began selling drugs for premature ejaculation

In the UK, it was started the sale of the first oral medication for the treatment of premature ejaculation, the BBC reported.

A new drug called Priligy(dapoxetine) belongs to the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, which includes such popular antidepressants as fluoxetine, duloxetine, sertraline and many others. Unlike most of its “teammates” dapoxetine does not require the use of long-term courses and is effective even with a single application in the interval of three to one hours before sexual intercourse.

As clinical trials have shown on men whose intercourse lasted less than a minute, 30 milligrams of the drug increased this time to an average of 2 minutes 47 seconds, and 60 milligrams to 3 minutes 19 seconds. The same index for those taking placebo was 1 minute 45 seconds.

The drug, approved in recent months for use in several European countries, has not yet received a British license. However, the country’s laws allow doctors to prescribe to patients an unlicensed drug under their own responsibility, provided that there are no alternatives to its use in a particular patient.

For these reasons, dapoxetine under the trade name Priligy is distributed by Lloyds Pharmacy only through the Internet after an online consultation with a doctor. The price of packaging with three 30-milligram tablets is 76 pounds sterling (about 117 dollars).

According to the head of the department of male health Lloydspharmacy Nitin Makadia, consultations on the Internet will cover the maximum number of men with premature ejaculation, as most of them hesitate to personally discuss this matter with the doctor.

Premature ejaculation is a widespread sexual disorder. According to statistics, about a third of men ever face such a problem.
